Protocol for Handling Misbehavior
If students do not follow school rules they will be given a consequence. These times are considered valuable learning opportunities where students consider how the action of a community member affects others.
Most misbehaviors would be handled at Stage 1 and progress to later stages if they reoccurr.
Some misbehaviors are considered more severe and immediately require being handled at a higher stage.

Stage 1: Warning and discussion with the student
Stage 2: Time out to reflect and/or loss of recess time Stage 3: Conference with the Principal or Assistant Principal
Stage 4: In-school suspension Stage 5: Suspension from school |
Apology of Action
An “apology of action” is used at all stages of the protocol listed on the left.
It begins with a reflective time when one considers how he or she can fix the things that resulted from their misbehavior. An apology of action recognizes that making amends is more than giving a verbal apology. When feelings have been hurt, truly making amends requires taking steps to restore trust and a sense of harmony. |
